“Elu pole mingi karneval!”
Kaasaegset ehtekunsti on Luiga õppinud täiendavalt vahetusõpilasena Itaalias (Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Firenze) ning Belgias (PXL-MAD). Näitus HOP galeriis on Luiga kolmas isikunäitus.

“Life ain’t no carnival!”
Preacher.
Jewellery created for Sille Luiga's solo exhibition PRIVATE PARTY. Preach are connected to the rituals of celebrating creation and destruction of life while defining contemporary problems, trinkets and decorating tradition. The artwork of the present exhibition has been curated by the imaginary character called Preacher – a tipsy opinion leader who is able to combine all the woes and joys of the world into one story.
Artist Sille Luiga comments on her exhibition: "The party is still over. Only a few odd remains such as industrially mass-produced ornaments and accessories or the party attributes from the former fleshy, jovial and luxurious grotesque (medieval carnival culture) have passed on to my life. Party and everything related to it should talk about its participants' perception of the world. Whether on top of the entertainment world or eating the good old cake made of cookies and cottage cheese – the situation is similarly absurd. I am in constant confusion since I cannot understand nor share the ideas of what is graceful and valuable; the ephemeral and the constant. Therefore, I am searching imagery from the junk and clutter lying around everywhere – something that would explain objectively and practically the attitudes of my era – that would illustrate contemporary (influential) individuals, events and phenomena, connecting and reconciling these with both my personal and the rest of the (cultural) history. Bakhtin justified Rabelais' creative practice more or less the same way. The artwork for this exhibition has been all crafted by hand – I have embossed investment coins, anodized aluminium, moulded latex and so on.
Exhibition PRIVATE PARTY. Preach serves simulatenously as a prologue and a continuation to my Master's thesis "PARTY's OVER. Notes" (defended in 2020 at the Estonian Academy of Arts). And therefore I would love to thank my former supervisors Nils Hint and Kadri Mälk. My gratitude also to HOP gallery and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia."
